Still Image Moving

In December I was part of 'Still Image Moving' Organised as part of the in between time fesival. This street photography project allowed passers by to unleash their inner performer.

Promoting Organic Produce was something many people felt strongly about

...also the causes and consequences of polution

...but there is nice traffic too!

At the end of each day the images were projected...

....both at the container which was the studio for the day and the Old Bank in the Centre of Bristol.

Participants were asked for their ideas for a picture with a message that meant someting to them , lighting and props were used to create a strong image.

A slideshow of images showing the process and development of the project can be seen here.

I am intending to continue this style of photography into 2011 and if you would like to be photographed for a similar project please contact: nick@nickballphotography.com

Mel and Lewis

It was back to the Avon Gorge Hotel with Mel and Lewis.

Another fine day and a packed room.

We escaped the reception for some shots by the Suspension Bridge

and continued the photography into the evening.

Gill and Steve

Gill and Steve were one of the first weddings to be held at the newly refurbished Clevdon Hall.

Their pre wedding shoot was at Clevdon Hall and gave us the opportunity to scout the grounds for good locations and poses.

We were able to repeat these poses for some fantastic shots on the day

The day finished with a spectacular firework display

Landance 2010

The Landance is an annual event held on the Blackdown Hills.

Its participants include both professional and amateur dancers and musicians of all ages.

More images by Landance photographer Nick Ball images can be seenon the Landance website here and on the Arts Council England website here

Sharon and Chris

Sharon's day began with her family.

Before she and her dad set out for the church.

Family and friends celebrated the wedding.

The reception was at Cadbury House.

As well as the traditional poses......

.......Sharon and Chris had a Photosofa, which was one of the most enthusiastically supported I can remember, with their book running to over 100 pages of photos and messages!!!

Clancy and Khalil

Bristol Registry Office was the starting point for Clancy and Khalil's big day, we had tried out a few ideas on the pre wedding shoot and put these into practice in a busy Corn Street.

A beautiful vintage Citreon was the transport tothe Victorian Saul Lodge for a house party style reception.

The gardens providing all sorts of fun photo opportunities.

It was a great day for photographs, although I did have some competition!!!

Outdoor Photosofa

The Photosofa is proving to be very popular both at weddings and other celebrations and has ventured outdoors with great effect.

The idea remains the same, guests use a remote control to take their own picture (or a number of pictures). They then select their favourite and write a message. Both the message and the picture are professionally bound into a book as a unique record of the special day.

Trash the Dress

Also known as cherish the dress, this is basically a fun photoshoot to get the most out of your wedding or prom dress before its dry cleaned and placed in an acid free cardboard box for the rest of its life.

Despite the title in the vast majortity of cases the dress is undamaged.

The Photosofa

The Photosofa is the perfect way to record your special day. Your guests take their own picture using studio quality equipment and write a special message, both the picture and the message form facing pages in a professionally bound book to make a unique record of your day.

The Photosofa is usually set-up for your evening reception so as to include all your guests. It is good if the best man can introduce it at the end of his speech and there will be examples of printed books to get your guests in the mood.

As well as the sofa there is a camera which is radio controlled, a set of studio lights and a computer. The guests trigger the camera with the radio control when they are ready.

Most people take a few pictures and pick the one they like, this will be the one that is used in the book, they then write a comment, usually this is with gold and silver pens on a black background, but whatever combination best suits your theme can be used.

To make sure the whole process goes smoothly an operater is on hand to encourage your guests and show examples although most people don't need much encouragement...
The images and the accompaning text are professionally bound into a hardback book to form a unique and special reminder of your big day.

The individualism of the guests comes through in a way that is not possible with posed wedding photographs.

The Photosofa is becoming very popular, each one is individual and as well as chosing the setting props such as big glasses can be on hand.

Gillian and Kevin

Gillian had warned me that the wedding would be slightly unconventional. It began at a registry office.

The wedding party then walked through the centre of Bristol with photographs both posed and candid.

They were greeted with champagne on their arrival at the Bristol Mercury Hotel where the wedding breakfast speeches followed. The best man thoughtfully providing ear defenders for the bride before her groom spoke.
